Fire Prevention Your family's best defense against any fire incident is prevention. House fires continue to be a threat to our families. Deaths from house fires have risen. According to the National Safety Council, more than 3,300 people die each year in house fires; tens of thousands more are seriously injured. Nearly 700 of these deaths are children under the age of 14. Three of four deaths are caused by smoke. Most fatal house fires happen at night when people are asleep. Contrary to popular belief, the odor of the smoke may not wake you or your family. The poisonous gases and smoke produced from a fire can numb the senses and put you into a deeper sleep. Inspect your home for any potential fire hazards. Correct any hazards and or potential hazards immediately. If you have any questions regarding the safety of your home please feel free to contact the fire department or the Warrington Township Fire Marshal’s office at (215) 343-9350. The following are tips to aid you in the event you have a house fire along with additional preventative information.
A few minutes of preplanning could save you and your family’s life. Review your plans with your family when you change the batteries in the smoke detectors.
