Peter Barker

Peter Barker is a Technical Policy Manager with extensive experience in the testing, assessment and certification of passive fire protection products, with specialist expertise in fire resisting doors and their associated components. 

Experience

With more than 22 years of experience, Peter has developed an in-depth understanding of British and European standards, helping customers to comply with building and construction product regulations in the U.K. and E.U. 

He is also an active member of multiple working groups within CEN and BSI, where he uses his knowledge to assist with revising and improving supporting standards for testing and certifying fire resisting construction products. He is also lead on the working group for matters related to CE marking of fire doors within the relevant sector of the group of Notified Bodies for the Construction Products Regulation. In addition, Peter is the current Convenor of TC127/WG7, the working group responsible for the EN 13501 series of fire classification standards and serves as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Fire Test Study Group.

Peter has provided training, engineering assessments and site inspection of fire resisting elements of construction across a diverse range of industry sectors including transport, nuclear, education, healthcare, heritage and defence since 2006. His combination of technical knowledge, regulatory insight and industry leadership has made him a respected voice within the industry.

• Peter has authored many articles and documents related to fire safety standards, building regulations and fire resisting construction products, which have been published in trade journals, trade association websites and as customer facing technical bulletins.
• Delivered hundreds of presentations and training sessions, including paid training, seminars, webinars and conference talks at trade shows, exhibitions, and high security sites.  
• Contributed to the development and support of key industry standards widely used across the sector.
