Warringtonfire offers UKAS accredited marine certification from its Warrington office and is able to provide certification schemes for products and personnel.
Warringtonfire is an Approved Body under the Merchant Shipping Regulations and is therefore able to provide the necessary marine certification services and testing to give approval for products for use in vessels sailing in U.K. waters or which are U.K. Registered.
Warringtonfire is also able to facilitate Wheelmark approval through its sister company Element Rotterdam, which is a Notified Body under the Marine Equipment Directive and is therefore able to provide the necessary marine certification services and testing to give approval for products for use in vessels sailing in European waters or which are European Registered.
Marine certification is a unique route to market, as once you are certified and, on the register, you have a direct line to potential customers.
The first step for marine certification for fire protection equipment is to submit a request for services to the Approved Body / Notified Body which should include documentation relating to the product and its application.
The product is then subject to "sample selection" prior to being tested and if the criteria within the Fire Test Procedure Code are met, the Approved Body / Notified Body issues EC Type Examination Certification.
While the product is selected, the Approved Body / Notified Body reviews the quality assurance systems of the manufacturer.
If the Approved Body / Notified Body is satisfied that the requirements of the quality Modules (D, E or F) are met, they will then issue a Quality Assurance Certificate of Conformity and registers the product on the U.K. / European approved product database.
Following this, the manufacturer affixes the Mark of Conformity (Black Ensign / Wheelmark) to the product and issues a Declaration of Conformity.
Both of the aforementioned routes to market enable the certification body to provide the relevant U.S. Coastguard Approval numbers, allowing the product to be used on ships that sail in U.S. waters or U.S. registered ships.
The aforementioned approvals and notification enables Warringtonfire and its sister company Element Rotterdam to be in a unique position to be able to offer marine certification for the U.K., Europe and U.S. markets.
