Steve Hankey is General Manager of Warringtonfire's Birchwood testing facility, leading a large team of specialists delivering fire resistance and passive fire protection testing.

Experience

Since joining Warringtonfire over 30 years ago, Steve has progressed from Laboratory Technician through to Technical Officer, Technical Consultant, Operations Manager and General Manager, to the position he holds today. As Technical Governance Manager, Steve supports clients and colleagues with projects at Warringtonfire's state-of-the-art Birchwood testing facility.

Steve has a wealth of technical expertise across a wide range of product segments and performance characteristics. These include fire resistance testing of timber, steel and composite doorsets; structural steelwork protection; glazing systems; partition assemblies; dampers and ductwork; firestopping systems; and smoke leakage testing.

Career Highlights

As Technical Governance Manager, Steve helps develop strategies and execution plans for product groups and relevant technical services as well as developing and implementing the technical governance framework to ensure that all activities related to testing, and certification are carried out in a consistent, efficient, and reliable manner.

Steve has also gained a strong understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 through leading the Warrington-based testing operations and managing a team of 90+ colleagues. This includes driving significant project management changes and implementing extensions to testing scopes and other CAPEX projects supporting Warringtonfire’s testing operation.
