Warringtonfire Australia were engaged by Per Se Developments to undergo the fire safety engineering for the Cirrus Apartments, Canberra.

The project:

Cirrus Apartments is a 25 storey apartment building including retail on the ground floor and mezzanine and carparking in the basement and levels 1 – 4. There are two separate tower blocks located on a podium. The western tower block contains residential units on levels 5 – 17 and the eastern tower block (tower 2) contains residential units on level 5 – 23. The building is located above the single storey basement carpark.

The site was bounded by a public road (Emu Bank) to the north, Benjamin Way to the east, Block 35, Section 52 to the south and an easement located on Block 35, Section 52 to the west. The close proximity of site to adjacent properties presented openings in external walls that required protection and fire safety engineering to provide solutions to protect openings.

Our solution:

Our team of fire safety engineers in Canberra provided a comprehensive fire safety strategy to permit reduction in fire rating to ground and mezzanine level building elements, protection of openings to adjacent boundaries, extended travel distance to exits, dual water supply to fire hydrant and sprinkler system, extended fire hydrant and fire hose reel coverage and rationalisation of zone smoke control to ground floor.

Our fire safety engineers developed an interim fire safety strategy for the developer to manage fire safety risks during construction. This included extensive stakeholder consultation, a fire risk assessment and mitigation measures that were reviewed and updated throughout construction.
