The project

Warringtonfire Australia were engaged by Parkview to complete the fire safety engineering for Crown Plaza Sydney.

The challenge

The project situated at 286 Sussex Street, is a high rise, mixed use development. It has a basement carpark, function centre, restaurant, hotel (Crowne Plaza Sydney) and residential sole-occupancy units. The scale of the building and the restricted size of the building footprint – bounded by an adjoining property and CBD streets – created unique challenges to ensure occupants could safely exit the building if there was a fire.

Our solution

We prepared a concept design, fire engineering brief and fire engineered solution for the project. We worked with the stakeholders to develop a range of performance solutions relating to reduced fire ratings, protection of openings, evacuation provisions and firefighting equipment. The exit strategy was developed using evacuation modelling to address the reduced exit widths provided.
