The challenge

Winx Stand was designed to provide increased weather protection and significantly enhance amenity for general admission patrons on race days at Royal Randwick Racecourse.

Located within the Royal Randwick Racecourse Precinct, the Winx Stand comprises three multi-purpose halls over two levels with food and beverage facilities as well as a new link bridge connecting to the QEII Grandstand. With an internal capacity of up to 7,500 patrons, the facility will be used for large race events and private functions.

Our solution

The fire engineering scope for the Winx Stand project was to develop a comprehensive fire safety strategy and to prepare a range of performance solutions. This included assessment of egress provisions for the large population, smoke hazard management, and interfaces with the QEII Grandstand and precinct fire services infrastructure. The strategy was analysed using smoke and evacuation modelling for a range of possible hall configurations and population distributions. Warringtonfire assisted the team throughout construction, witness testing, and final sign-off of the fire strategy to deliver the project on time for occupation.
